INK OF THE MONTH: Open Source 495 (OS495) – Food Grade, Direct Replacement for Videojet® 1000 Series
OS495 was originally developed to mark on eggshells, both white and brown. This ink can also be used to create images on United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) specified foods such as cones, soft candies, pills and on packaging that may come in contact with food. The OS495 ink is manufactured in accordance with the US FDA Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). This ink can be used in applications where Videojet's V495-D is being used. This ink is a direct replacement for V495-D, hence no flush is required.

OS495 has been developed to operate in Videojet® 1000 series printers. It is important that the printer being used is also certified food grade. The operating temperature is limited to 55 – 110 º F (13 – 55º C).
- Moderate to rapid dry time depending in the environmental conditions.
- Can be piggybacked directly behind Videojet V495-D.
SHELF LIFE AND STORAGE
OS495 ink has a shelf life of 12 months from date of manufacture when stored at a temperature range of +35oF to +95oF (+2oC to +35oC). Prolonged exposures to temperatures outside these limits will shorten the ink shelf life. If there is a possibility that the ink has been frozen during shipping, bring to room temperature (+70oF to +75oF or 21oC to +24oC) and shake well before using.
OS495 prints on eggshells and food packaging for food products such as cones, soft candies, pills, etc.
NOTE AND CAUTION
The makeup, OS730, will turn yellow to amber with age but it will not affect the performance. OS495 is developed in accordance with specific US FDA regulations. It is the responsibility of the end user to determine whether the material meets Food Grade standards in accordance local, regional and national regulation in specific application.
